On 24 September 2021, the Director met with Mr. Espoir Fadu, a Togolese artist who has been promoting disarmament through his work. He was also received by the High Representative during her visit to Lomé in 2019. Ways to promote peace and disarmament education were discussed.
A meeting took place with EO for support and guidance and resulted in an agreed course of action with regard to project funds clearance, which has been summarized in a revised matrix circulated to all

On 20 September 2021, UNREC and EO were able to agree on closing the ATT Madagascar Project and OSIWA project as well as not to address the issue of accrued interests from all accounts, among others. UNREC is following up with further communications with France, Cameroon and Finland. The multiple donors contributed ATT fund is to be addressed, upon Senior Finance Assistant’s resumption of duty.

On 16 September 2021, UNREC joined virtually the monthly meeting of the working group for the Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Arrangements on Conflict-Related Sexual Violence (MARA) organised by the MINUSCA Section on CRSV in CAR. UNREC requested support from the CRSV Section for the distribution of the questionnaire to consult working group members on the impact of small arms proliferation to exacerbate CRSV. UNREC will collect responses to the questionnaire by the end of the consultation phase.

From 15 to 17 September 2021, in Abidjan (IVORY COAST), UNREC participated in regional workshop held with ECOWAS Member States’ experts to harmonize guidelines on the ECOWAS Convention on SALW and the Arms Trade Treaty. A mission report is sent separately to the SMT.

On 7 September 2021, UNREC participated in an informal meeting convened by UNODA 1540 Support Unit together with other Regional Centers and relevant stakeholders to reinforce a network of 1540 coordinators and focal points and seek ways to strengthen cooperation. Participants brainstormed on cooperation opportunities at the working level. Two regional organizations, the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) have participated in the meeting as special guests. UNREC shared information on the scope and type of past activities on 1540 undertaken by the Regional Centre, including national workshops organized in Mauritania and Niger. UNREC also made suggestions on ways to enhance cooperation.
Planned cross border project with UNCTs in Mali and Guinea
