On 11 June 2021, UNREC met the newly appointed General Delegate for peace and security of the West-African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA-WAEMU), Mr. Paul Robert Tiendrebeogo, formerly Minister for foreign affairs and the diaspora of Burkina Faso. While transiting in Lomé, Mr. Tiendrebeogo requested a meeting with UNREC Director to personally extend to him an invitation to attend a EUMOA meeting with National Commissions on SALW from the regional body’s eight Member States scheduled for 13- 16 July in Dakar Senegal. The meeting aims to devise sound strategies to combat the illicit flow of SALW in a context of instability in the region fuelled by extremist groups, particularly foreign terrorist fighters (FTFs). He further requested the revitalization of UNREC/ODA and UEMOA cooperation.
