On 19 November 2021, UNREC sent its presentation on “Initiatives on Disarmament and Arms Control in the ECOWAS Region” to the Annual Coordination Meeting of National Commissions on Small Arms, organized by the ECOWAS Commission in Accra, Ghana, from 17 – 19 November 2021.

On 18 November 2021, UNREC participated in the CRSV MARA Working Group monthly meeting organised by the Women’s Protection Adviser of MINUSMA. UNREC exchanged with the DPO’s CRSV Team in the Policy and Best Practices Service of DPET on the new policy for preventing and responding to CRSV in field missions. UNREC debriefed on its work with the gender and SALW control project in CAR and encouraged participants to consider the links between small arms proliferation and misuse and CRSV.

On 18 November 2021, UNREC received the President of the NGO Groupe de Travail Femmes, Jeunes, Paix et Sécurité en Afrique de l’Ouest et au Sahel (GTFJPSAOS)/TOGO who expressed the desire to receive UNREC technical support to develop and implement gender sensitive peace education and disarmament projects.

On 25 October 2021, UNREC held a meeting with CAB concerning a project to develop WAM training materials for the UN peace operations, which UNODA manages in cooperation with DPO and AMAT. UNREC has agreed to host the pilot workshop in Lomé, which tentatively is scheduled to take place from 24 to 26 November.
