A Regional workshop on Weapons and Ammunition Management and Cross-border Control in the Lade Chad Basin was held from 13 to 14 December 2023, in Lomé, Togo.
From 5 to 7 December 2023, the United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Africa (UNREC) participated in the West African Region Working Group of the Global Counter Terrorism Forum (GCTF). The regional meeting , supported by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), was held in Banjul, The Gambia. Attendees included senior officials from West African Member States and associated Sahel States, including Chad, Cameroon and the Central African Republic. Global Counter Terrorism Forum Member States included Algeria, Germany, Turkey, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, along with UN agencies (UNOCT, IOM, UNREC, UNODC) and other partners, including the Mines Advisory Group (MAG), the Accra Initiative, Conflict Armament Research (CAR), the German cooperation (GIZ), Interpol, among others.

On 25 November 2023, in Lomé, Togo, the University of Lomé held a symposium on “the Fight against terrorism in the Sahel and the Gulf of Guinea,” supportedby the United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Africa (UNREC). Participants from Benin, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Mali, Niger, Nigeria and Togo attended as did CSOs representatives (WANEP, CIVIC), academics from the region, government officials, including from the National Assembly and the Ministry of Education, representatives of the diplomatic corps based in Togo, and representatives of the United Nations Country Team in Togo.

From 5 to 7 December 2023, the United Nations Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Africa (UNREC), the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) and the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) co-organized a “Regional seminar on the prevention of violent extremism and the management of conventional weapons in West Africa” in Lomé, Togo.

Last 24th october , UNREC celebrates alongside the unct ,the United Nations Day, sensitizing its work in promotion of peace and disarmament in Africa at a fair held in a local market place.
